A Brief Living HISTORY OF FOLK with Merlin Snider, Stephen Jay, and Tom Corbett
— —
Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3331 Old Conejo Road, Newbury Park
Besides being the bass player in the Weird Al Yankovic band for 30 years, STEPHEN JAY is a Peabody Award winning composer, a master of funk and poly-rhythms. Steve spent two years traveling and recording indigenous music in Africa, releasing two albums on Nonesuch Records and he will share some of that experience as well as his own songs. TOM CORBETT is a string wizard & multi- instrumentalist. Kills it on mandolin and guitar. Has played with everyone! He is an Album charting folk singer-songwriter & a Finalist at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. He will share some of his own roots inspiration. MERLIN SNIDER is the magician with words and melody & a folk charting singer-songwriter with the No. 2 album on FOLKDJ List, April 2017. He is a Guest Artist and Teacher at this year's CA Songwriting Camp and the producer of this show.
I am honored and excited to be a Guest Artist and Teacher at CA Songwriting Camp (formerly Penny Nichol's Summersongs). "CA Songwriting camp is a retreat from the hectic hubbub of everyday life. You will dive deep into your creativity. Camp is an uplifting experience for songwriters of ALL levels — whether you’ve written 100 songs, are looking to write your best song, or haven’t written one…yet! Our musical community continues to cherish Penny’s vision of a “music camp for grown-ups” that allows each person’s artistry to shine and for us all to gather to have fun, sing, create, dance, learn and share our hearts." Come join me for four days of joy and music by the ocean.
